Arts and culture

Central to Eveleigh could become a cultural destination that’s recognised and admired around the world. Already, the area’s arts, culture and the creative industries are major reasons the area is such an attractive and vibrant place to live and visit.

These elements help to develop a great sense of place for each unique precinct, telling the stories of the community in an inclusive and accessible way. The creative industries have made the area home. Internationally-renowned facilities such as Carriageworks, the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence and the Chippendale Creative Precinct, acclaimed Aboriginal art studios, and a range of renowned local artists and designers have underpinned the cultural and creative identity of the area.

We will look for ways to enhance, protect and conserve heritage buildings to celebrate and enrich the area’s vibrant culture and arts community. This could be through weaving the highest quality public art through public areas, and an exciting activation program. We could support the heart of each neighbourhood to be a vibrant place to gather, visit and explore while reflecting the area’s unique heritage and stories.

This could see a strong arts, cultural and heritage area even stronger, and a celebration of the area’s rich diversity and create great places, each with a unique character.
